I was in the same boat! I, too, felt called out about my truly heartfelt desires to save the whole planet, not realizing how misplaced my ideals were.

The left is horrible at messaging and marketing, and combined with the right’s near-perfect ability to dismantle any opposition, it’s damn near impossible that any objective conversation about climate change will ever occur.
