Thanks for the feedback! You've got some good points I would like to address.
The issue of whether the tax code is fair was out of scope of this article. I don't think it is fair, and the wealthy have definitely gotten a multitude of tax breaks over the past 40 years.
I am planning on doing a follow-up article on this issue, but it's a little deeper than just current numbers. It deals with what "should" be, and that's a whole other plane of discussion involving emotion and interpretation of reality, not just numbers.
As for hating the poor, I admit that I was hyperbolic. I even put that in my weekly newsletter. I was trying to use "power words" in my title and got a little carried away.
While you're right that most people don't have a problem with aid to the poor, it does sting that their effective tax rate is less than half. People are generous and self-centered simultaneously, so helping someone out while cursing the system that helps isn't oxymoronic; it's just human nature.
