That being said, insurance is still a resource in many places—for now. But I fully acknowledge that for some, it’s already unreliable, and eventually, it may not be an option at all.
My father-in-law was a high school history teacher who built his future around a pension. But he also prepared for a world where that pension might never come. He believed that in his grandchildren’s lifetime, that kind of preparation would be critical.
That’s the perspective I’m coming from. We have to recognize what should happen while preparing for the reality that it might not. The safety nets we rely on today may not be there tomorrow, so we need to use the resources we have now—while we still can—to build resilience for the future.
Even if it's a future that we personally may never see.
