The Next Few Years Are a (Slowly Closing) Planning Window for Your House
Stop treating “later” like a plan.
There’s a strange kind of household anxiety that sets in when the weather starts feeling ahead of schedule.
You read about heat records in places that used to be mild. You see storms behaving strangely, insurance getting harder, power grids getting more fragile, and repairs costing more than they did a few years ago. You look around your own house and realize you don’t actually know the age of half the systems keeping it livable. The roof seems fine. The air conditioner still runs. The basement hasn’t flooded. The electrical panel is just there, quietly doing its job.
And still, the question sits there: how much time do we really have to get our homes in order?
For most households, this isn’t a one-year doom clock. Your house probably isn’t about to become unlivable next summer because you haven’t upgraded every system. That kind of panic doesn’t help anyone. It burns attention, wastes money, and pushes people toward bad purchases.
But the opposite mistake is more dangerous now: assuming that “later” is still a plan.
