To your first question, I agree, there is very little to nothing the average person can do.

To your second question, I disagree, in that I care about my two children who will live for decades after I'm gone. I brought them into this world, and I can't just write off their lives without some type of preparation.

Maybe it's useless because it won't have any impact. Maybe it's useless because they won't care. But maybe it will give them the opportunity, if nothing else, to make a choice about their future that they otherwise wouldn't have.
